When James Morrison walked off the 18th green on his Sunday round with a secure 3-stroke victory over his nearest competition, it sent his retirement plans packing.

Justin Rose triumphed over J.J. Spaun to secure his 12th PGA Tour victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The duo were forced into a playoff when they both finished on a total of 16-under-par come the end of the Sunday.
Rose made an excellent start to the tournament with opening rounds of 64 and 66, and come the end of Saturday he was a single stroke behind the leader Tommy Fleetwood.
Fleetwood carded a lacklustre 1-under-par final round that allowed J.J. Spaun to edge ahead of him with the American making two birdies within his last three holes. While a bogey on the 12th hole seemed to hinder Rose’s chances, a stellar sweep of four birdies from the 14th to the 17th hole helped him climb the leaderboard to force a playoff with Spaun.
Having played the 18th hole again, both players had their birdie putts lip out to result in a pair of pars. On the second playoff hole, both Rose and Spaun nailed their approach shots to made excellent birdies, the latter sinking a lengthy putt much to the satisfaction of the spectators.
With the pressure mounting, Spaun then failed to match Rose when the Englishman secured another birdie on the 18th hole, pushing his initial putt past the hole. This year’s U.S. Open champion finished in second place once all was said and done.
Justin Rose however was elated to have conquered not only the field but an exhilarating sudden death playoff “That was an amazing last 90 minutes. I never stopped believing. I played unbelievable golf coming down the stretch and had so much fun with it. When I bring my best I know I’m good enough to play against the best players in the world.”
Rose was notably in a playoff with Rory McIlroy at this year’s Masters when the Northern Irishman defeated him to secure his career grand-slam.
Tommy Fleetwood once again missed out on earning his first tour title having finished T3 alongside Scotty Scheffler. He narrowly missed out on winning the Travelers Championship back in June. He was positive when reflecting on his performance however “I’m getting close, I think. That’s the good side of it. I’m getting really close…played some really good golf, putted really well. Justin and JJ have done great there and I didn’t quite do enough.”
While we wish Tommy better luck next time, we admittedly love watching a veteran like Justin Rose gain another victory on the PGA Tour! How will he perform at the Ryder Cup next month? If you’re playing golf yourself this week, we’re available in the pro shop to help you with your golfing needs.
